Get On With It
I’ve had lots of successes and failures in my entrepreneurial career and what I have learned is that experiences cannot really be bought or taught, but they can be shared. That is why I enjoy meeting people who have or want to start their own businesses…..for whatever reason.
I’d like to share with you what it really takes to get a business off the ground.
All the obvious stuff, like hard work and persistence, passion, belief, drive, positivity, energy, determination and so on are all good attributes to have when starting your own business, but when its all said and done, there is one thing that is like the key to the front door to be an entrepreneur……Action!!!
I know this sounds a bit obvious, but it is true…….it’s upto you and you alone to take action and do it. Most people don’t and that is why most people don’t have their own businesses; they just haven’t done it!
I’ve met hundreds, probably thousands of entrepreneurs over the years, many have the attributes to be a success, but more often than not, the most common barrier is a lack of courage in their conviction. These wannabes are just not yet ready to take the leap of faith and have that self belief that they can do it.
I call it diving board syndrome. You either jump off the board or you don’t, you can’t try and jump in the pool…it’s impossible!!
All the obvious stuff, like hard work and persistence, passion, belief, drive, positivity, energy, determination and so on are all good attributes to have when starting your own business, but when its all said and done, there is one thing that is like the key to the front door to be an entrepreneur……Action!!!
But let me tell you this, if you start your own business, you’ll get onto the green grass on the other side, (which is greener by the way) and you’ll be thinking, damn…..why did it take me so long to do this!!!
And it doesn’t really matter what your business is, because it is your business and you are doing this for your own reasons.
It doesn’t matter if your business idea is not a game changing, disruptable, scaleable, global, first of a kind technology; your business idea may just be based on your own experience in the company you work in now and you simply feel you can do it better and on your own. It may be that you have a passion or are inspired by a hobby or experience that you can turn into a business. It may be that you just want a better work/life balance or you’ve been forced to start on your own through personal circumstances.
Whatever the reason, If you are up for starting your own business, I urge you to do four things:
First, make the decision that you are going to do it
Secondly, pick a date when you will start
Thirdly, hire me as your coach
And finally, stop worrying, just go for it and have fun on the way!
And remember that being an entrepreneur is a journey not a destination.
I love being an entrepreneur and thrive on hearing people’s stories, so come and share your journey with me.
